“An elastic continuum” is an artistic research project that explores how rubber, an organic substance linked to the rise of capitalism, imperialism and modernity, embodies the ways in which humans and non-humans are intimately intertwined with the military-industrial complex.
The installation captures the story of the dandelion strain Taraxacum Koksaghyz, which contains rubber. From the mountains of Tien Shan to the collective farms of the Soviet Union, via the greenhouses of Auschwitz and the laboratories financed by multinational tyre companies, the miraculous journey of Koksaghyz reveals the flexible links that bind people, plants, politics and power.”
