“Some may call it börek. Or pita. Like other Croatians, I call it burek. Be careful, the name you pick might get you into hot waters…This crispy delight has been the source of both joking and yelling in the Balkans, and more recently, in online communities. An outsider would surely scratch his head at the amount of heat around a simple pie. But leave it to Ex-Yugoslavia to turn a pastry into a nationalist debate, and like any of their conflicts, turn it into a gag.”
